Call for Nominations: Fred Gersh Scholarship For Veterans Leading the Fight Against Prostate Cancer Awareness

WASHINGTON, DC, May 16, 2013 – Blue Ribbon Advocacy Alliance announced today that it has established a prostate cancer scholarship fund, in memory of Fred Gersh, for veterans who have shown exemplary leadership in advancing advocacy, policy, and outreach around prostate cancer issues. The awardees may use the funds to attend ASCO, AUA, PCRI, or another national meeting meant to further educate and empower him or herself as a leader and advocate.

 

Nominations are accepted through July 4, 2013. Winners will be announced November 11, 2013 Nominees must be:

 

* US Citizen or Permanent Resident * at least 18 years old * high school graduate * veteran or military personnel * devoted to prostate cancer advocacy, research, access, and/or education * leader in advancing advocacy, policy, access, and/or outreach around prostate cancer issues * involved with prostate cancer issues for at least 2 years

 

Applicants must submit a 500 word essay about their work in helping the prostate cancer community locally or nationally and illustrate how this scholarship will be used to advocacte for and empower the local or national prostate cancer community. Applicants may also send photographs illustrating their involvement with the cancer community.

 

The Fred Gersh Scholarship winner will receive $1,000 to be used to attend a local or national oncology or urology conference, to fund a booth at a local health conference, or to fund a small local advocacy or educational event. Winner must send photographs or videos, showing how the scholarship was used to fight for prostate cancer awareness.

BRAA advocates for greater access to care, services, and resources as well as increased public awareness of prostate cancer and men’s health.
